The Bud Light Seebold Race team driver was aced out on the start by Torrente as the Miami, Florida driver moved from 2nd to the lead and built up to a 10 second margin until the 17th lap when the race was red flagged when Greg Foster of Anaheim Hill, California, making his first racing appearance in two years, spun out on the apex of turn four stopping the race and forcing a restart.Again, Torrente held the point with Seebold, the Osage Beach, Missouri driver moving from 3rd to 2nd off the start chasing the California Gold Racing driver for the next 24 laps until Torrente’s boat slowed giving the 43 year-old driver a chance to pounce into the lead that he would never relinquish to the end.
“It was a great day for the Bud Light Team and we continue to have the magic here in Windsor,” stated Seebold. “We worked hard to get the right set-up and it paid off in the end as we had to hold off a hard charging Terry Rinker and Chris Fairchild to the checkers.”
Terry Rinker in his Amsoil sponsored Leecraft boat pushed Seebold to the limit. Finally, at the one-third mark of the race, the Tampa, Florida driver got side by side and almost overtook the Missouri driver as they came through a hard 135 degree turn number four. The 2-time defending champion slid sideways and never got close enough again to make a pass and finished 1.8 seconds behind at the flag.
Chicago area driver Chris Fairchild took a well earned 3rd place closing up on the front two boats near races end and has now moved himself into 2nd place in the championship just 88 points back of Seebold. He has 2639 points with two races to go in the season and hope for his first title.
“We didn’t quite have the speed today and are going back home to test some more,” said Chris. “We have a small crew and we’ve done a good job and my family has helped a lot this season. We still have a chance and will work even harder to win our first title.”
Mike Seebold, the 2nd driver in the Bud Light Seebold Racing Team enjoying his 2nd ride of the season came home in 4th coming into the weekend looking forward to tackling his first win in Colorado and his all-time leading 29th victory in the history of the sport. He did his best in a boat that he had little time testing. He is now expected to focus on winning another Offshore title in Key West, Florida in November.
Torrente, had to settle for 5th place and when it was over all he could do was shake his head after winning the “B” main earlier in the day and finishing 2nd in the special Wyatt Nelson Benefit “Dash For Cash” to Tim Seebold leaving him 2nd in the starting line-up.
“I don’t know what more we could have done,” said the driver from Miami. “We had a pair of great starts, but again bad luck set in when a spark plug wire came loose and it’s another race and a moral victory to take home that’s all. What really hurts us now is that we are 145 points back in 4th in the championship with just two races left.”
Lynn Simburger of Elsah, Illinois again had a great run finishing 6th from his lowly 12th starting spot off the grid after having equipment problems in the B main. He continues to sit 5th in the championship this season and is looking to finish again in the top five for the 7th time in the last 8 seasons.
Randy Rinker of Syracuse, Indiana took home 7th place in his Amsoil sponsored boat with Jeff Shepherd in his J Shepherd Construction/Chris Fairchild Racing sponsored Pugh design came home 8th after starting 8th and sits 6th in the championship for the driver from Woodlawn, Tennessee.
Matt Sadl of Pacific, Missouri was 9th after qualifying 10th in his first race of the season, Brian Venton of Toronto, Ontario took 10th with another rookie Chuck Unkle of Thomasville, Georgia came home 11th in his new Pugh boat. Tim Fry, also in his first race from Kansas City, Missouri finished 12th.
Local favorite Greg Foster, making his first race appearance in two years, was disqualified for running illegal equipment after finishing the race in the top 5 after the full 50 laps.
The 6th Round of the 2007 F1-ChampBoat Grand Prix Series heads off to Phoenix, Arizona and Firebird Lake for the weekend of September 29th and 30th with four drivers still having a chance to capture the title. Four-time title holder Tim Seebold is holding a slim 88 point advantage. It will take every lap to probably determine this championship. Isn’t that what racing is all about?
